Plant update

Tomatoes and chilies are almost ready to go to new homes (despite the slagging I got from Shive about my spreadsheet, "you need to go on a date", it's the only way I can keep track of who's been promised what). Just have to pot the rest of them on and harden off. Very windy this week so have been putting off leaving them out, after the battering they got on Sunday, plus Met Eireann issued a blight warning for Tue to Thurs. Reckon it'll be next week before I start the distribution.

Review of The Con - Tegan & Sara

The Con - Tegan & Sara

This has been a slow grower. My initial reaction to the album was disappointment. I wanted to like them but on the strength of their music, not because of a misplaced loyalty. I mean, I'm not going to buy Melissa Etheridge or the Indigo Girls, their music is so dreary.
So, Tegan & Sara were about to be consigned to the same bucket, i.e. worthy but ultimately boring lesbian bands. But I kept listening occasionally to a couple of tracks, 'The Con' and 'Nineteen', then one or two more, 'Soil, Soil', 'Hop A Plane'. By now I simply ignore the few with the irritatingly tinny vocals, i.e. 'I Was Married', 'Knife Going In', and 'Burn Your life Down'. And I focus on the others, those tracks with intense, driven melodies, and the mellower ones such as 'Call It Off' and 'Floorplan'. Worth the time.

Being an aunt

Was at my wits end trying to find out what my, soon to be, 9 year old godson would like for his birthday. Thankfully his mother came up with a suggestion - a trip to town on Saturday to choose some new books. We'll make a day of it, pizza for lunch followed by a long session in Waterstones, and maybe even a new T-shirt?
The brother and I recalled how we were turned off clothes shopping for life (hence our current status as cutting edge fashionistas!) by accompanying our aunt Anne as kids - hours she spent in shops, often without buying anything (brain-numbing stuff). I might try looking for a new pair of Doc sandals on Sat, without history repeating itself ;~)
